Hanoi Cowboy

Crowded Vietnamese night market with lanterns, food stalls, signs, and motorbikes

See him striding through the Night Market

Down home boy with an uptown vibe

Big ol’ Stetson tipped high like a crown

Watching the rims of bamboo hats

Catch the light coming from Train Street

Pearl snaps and moon cakes

Frittering in the tropical squall that carries karaoke

In and out of the honky tonks of Beer Street

The beat of his Lucchese’s upon the cobbles

Brings the rain that kisses him like a long lost lover

That’s chased him to the other side of the world

He ducks into a bar in the middle of the road between East and West

“You want me to say that I want you stay

So you should probably leave”

Those crooning words greet him as he sits down

To sip whisky and shochu cut with ice cubes glittering like diamonds

For a few precious moments, all is right with the world.
