Country Fit Check: Luke Combs

Luke Combs on stage. Americana Aspects Country Fit Check.

Country music and fashion continue to go from strength to strength around the world, and among the major reasons for this Yellowstone Effect is the accessibility and authenticity of the artists who inhabit the space. Luke Combs shot to fame because of his down-to-earth sensibilities and everyman outlook.

This same attitude applies to Combs’ fashion sense. A mixture of fishing shirts, simple caps and jeans embody the Luke Combs look. But what kind of brands does Combs wear and how can you find them yourself? Let’s dive in with this edition of Country Fit Check.

Shirts

Combs is best known for his love of fishing shirts, particularly Columbia Sportswear. More specifically, Columbia’s Performance Fishing Gear (PFG). The artist’s black Columbia PFG shirt has become an iconic part of his look. Combs once told fellow singer Luke Bryan that he must own between 150 – 200 shirts from the brand in an episode of the TV show It’s All Country.

Combs’ appreciation for Columbia dates back to 2018 in the early days of his career when he wanted to wear shirts that were breathable and comfortable for his frame. He’s said, “I’ve always loved my PFG shirts all the way back to high school. When I started to play club runs early on, the rooms were so hot, and I wanted to be as comfortable as possible for the 90 minutes we were playing. The only shirt I owned that could do that was PFG, so it quickly became my go-to every time I performed.”

It’s little wonder Combs established a branded collaboration with Columbia that has helped to shift a hell of a lot of fishing shirts. And of course, Columbia PFGs have made this country fit check list. But there are other recommendations too.

This recommendation speaks for itself.

Another Columbia shirt option comes with a colourful fish logo on the front. Like all of Columbia’s products, this shirt is long-wearing and comfortable. It’s made with Omni-Wick, quick-drying fabric that is ideal for all types of weather.

Passenger Backcountry check shirt

Before you go thinking that Combs only wears Columbia, he’s been spotted wearing a variety of flannel shirts too. Consider Passenger clothing as an option for flannel shirts, as the patterns are eye-catching and rustic, while the materials are comfortable and durable in the outdoors.

An example is Passenger’s backcountry check shirt that comes in red ochre and navy. It features double front pockets, adjustable buttoned cuffs and is made from 100% organic cotton.

Traditional Western embroidery shirt from Boozelele

US-based Boozelele is known for its wide variety of traditional Hawaiian shirts. What’s less known is its range of awesome western-style and country shirts, which range from traditional and gothic to outrageous and out there.

The shirt recommended here is on the simpler side and more in line with what Combs might wear himself. It comes in black with old-school western stitching and hand-drawn art. Additionally, the fabric has been designed to be both wrinkle-resistant and breathable.

Jeans and trousers

Generally, Combs is versatile with the kind of jeans and trousers he wears. It’s the usual denim and rugged wearing material you’d expect for one of the biggest country music acts on the planet. The recommendations here reflect that:

Shoes and boots

Combs is a fan of Crocs. He’s called them “cool as hell” and that he’s worn them for “a long time.” And like his partnership with Columbia, Combs teamed up with Crocs to create his own custom pairs. This has included limited edition Jibbitz charms versions, a licence plate that reads ‘bootlegger’ with an image of Combs, a North Carolina sign and a guitar pick.  Beyond his love of Crocs, Combs has been seen wearing cowboy style boots as well.

Realtree APX classic clog crocs

While it’s harder to get your hands on a pair of the custom designed Combs crocs, there are alternative and more accessible products from the brand to try. An example is the classic clog version decked out in a mossy green camo look.

Here is a list of boots that can also help you achieve the Luke Combs look. Each product has been featured because of its durability, stylish appearance and adherence to country-western culture.

Lanx garstang burgundy gaucho boots

Hats

The crowning glory of Combs’ authentic look is his enjoyment for wearing trucker hats and snapbacks. Most notably, he’s collaborated with Blue Otter Polarized, which has created a line called Main Stage. Combs first partnered with the brand in 2019 and wore his first Main Stage hat at the BJCC Arena in Birmingham, Alabama.

Blue Otter Main Stage Mesh hat

The Luke Combs branded hat that started it all. Decked in black with the Blue Otter Polarized logo on the front, the cap is made with the premium Richardson 112 style. This is the gold standard measurement of trucker hats that has come to define comfort, durability and style.

Clifton Camo hat

In the vein of Combs appreciation for camo gear, another great choice is Clifton’s camo trucker hat. This UK-based company has emerged as one of the most exciting and authentic country-western fashion brands of the last few years.

The hat is made with a Flexfit 110 sweatband, which signals its high quality craftsmanship. This styling is the cream of the crop because it makes the cap extra durable and doesn’t sacrifice head support and feel.

Country-western fashion has become iconic

Combs has built a look as unpretentious and enduring as his songs. It’s the uniform of a man who never forgot his roots, and in true Combs fashion, it’s both approachable and instantly recognisable.

But the When It Rains It Pours singer isn’t the only country star shaping the style conversation. If Combs embodies comfort and practicality, Riley Green leans into the classic Southern gentleman swagger, while Morgan Wallen channels a rowdy, modern twist on Nashville streetwear.
