The New Frontier: Ultimate Guide To Indie Country-Western Fashion Brands In The UK

In case you’ve been living under a rock, the country-western genre has gone from strength to strength over the past decade. Stars like Morgan Wallen, Luke Combs, Riley Green and Kane Brown are making country cool, while independent brands are adding their own spin to cowboy hats, cowgirl boots, trucker hats and more.

An appetite for country-western is especially strong in the UK and here are some of my favourite indie clothing brands that are championing the culture.

Saloon Clothing

Saloon Clothing was created with the intention of championing British cowboy-chic. The founder of Saloon was motivated by his love of western films and fashion, even envisioning a short film series called Outrun: The Last Saloon to weave collections in with likeable and complex characters.

The brand has a diverse range of shirts, hoodies and trucker hats that are made with comfort and style in mind. While there is a deep respect paid to American traditions, Saloon definitely retains a British identity that is helping to carve out a new niche for country fans from all walks of life.

Melbelle

Melbelle is for all the cowgirls out there. This scrappy boutique label is a mixture of boho-western that curates products from bigger brands like Ariat and features its own smaller collections.

A great aspect of the store is the in-depth look books that curate different brands and accessories too e.g. this Stag and Spur Debut Collection, which is something that cowboys will want to check out.

Bluebird Boutique

Since its 2023 launch, Bluebird Boutique has become one of the most popular indie country-western clothing brands in the UK. This is down to the creative passion of founder Rebecca Coates, who was inspired to source country clothing that represented her.

Since then, Bluebird Boutique has expanded into a versatile range of cowgirl wear, men’s clothes, jewellery and other accessories.

The Cowboy Boot Store

Based in Sheffield, The Cowboy Boot Store is one of the top places to go for sourcing boots from all of your favourite brands. Selections include Ariat, Corral, Durango, Stetson and Old Gringo to name a few.

Beyond boots, the store stocks bolo ties, belt buckles, care products, wallets and clothes for men and women. Everything is united under a banner of passion for country-western culture.

UK Country Hat Bar

It’s always great to find an experiential brand that combines fashion with interactive events. UK Country Hat Bar will tick that box for you. The founder created the brand to explore her American ancestry and to offer custom hats. This has translated into hat-making workshops and pop ups that continue to spread the joys of crafting and decorating cowgirl hats from scratch.

Somethin’ Country UK

Here’s another experiential brand for you. Somethin’ Country UK was created as a community for UK country fans and has grown into a series of party events and musical collaborations.

The brand also provides a collection of colourful trucker hats to show a love for the movement.

Cowboys Cry Too

Mental health is an important topic for me and the image of a rugged cowboy can sometimes be limiting in its view of masculinity.

Cowboys Cry Too, set up by Gareth Thomas, aims to change that perception with a clothing brand that promotes mental health conversations and country fashion. For each product purchased, 10% of the profit goes to the UK charity Mind.

Dead Cowboy Clothing

If you’re a fan of gothic apparel meets western gear, Dead Cowboy Clothing could be what you’re looking for. For now, the range is limited to a few shirts, but there’s the potential for further growth in the future and it’s worth keeping an eye on.

In fact, Dead Cowboy Clothing would fit the style of country singer Warren Zeiders, who’s known to cultivate a gothic cowboy look.

Redneck Roads Apparel

The idea for some brands are born on the road. This was the case for Redneck Roads Apparel. The husband and wife founders were inspired to set the company up after travelling through Georgia and Tennessee in 2022.

The clothing range comes from a place of being designed by hand and covers traditional motifs such as buffalo skulls, boots and trucks. There are also products that are inspired by country singers like Luke Combs with an original twist.
