The Ballad Of The Coyote Gang

From the mouth and guitar of Dorian Bertanzini, troubadour extraordinaire, somewhere in The Frontier:

There was a train a’coming along the beaten track

Rolling through ol’ Robuck country ‘neath a sky of black

The moon was high and stars witnessed one and true

Outlaws always take their due

Around the bend they lay in wait

Hungry for their fate

The Coyote Gang set to feast

About to be unleashed

A finer pack of misfits never you did meet

Daring Coyote Kid, enemy of defeat

A bonny lass for his right hand

Saloon Simone, ready to command

His left hand played with fire

Bill Wilder was his name

Dynamite in his brain

Dynamite on his wire

The moon was high and stars witnessed one and true

Outlaws always take their due

On yonder train the gang did prey

Robbing riches bright as day

The dirge of gunslinging

Like a banshee singing

And with their score, the gang did flee

Into night and infamy

The Kid and his gang roamed far and wide

Plundering and roving with so much pride

Heroes to some, villains to many

Living free on every penny

‘Til fortune’s wheel turned around

And The Coyote Gang was run to ground

In fair Crest City, the Kid was caught

Who was betrayed and who was bought?

As the noose wrapped tight and verdict told

The Kid declared he’d never die old

And so he swung upon the gallow

Outlaw prince of the hallow

But take you care when on the road

Be you careful of what you have sowed

Be you vigilant with your wealth

Be you ready to defend yourself

Coyotes howl from their caves

Souls are restless in their graves

When the moon is high and stars witness one and true

Outlaws always take their due
